Aspects in Draconic Synastry
I currently stick to just a few aspects when I use Draconic Synastry. The conjunction (at the same place in the zodiac, give or take about 4 degrees) and opposition (approximately 180 degrees from each other in the zodiac, give or take about 4 degrees) are the two aspects I look for first, and then I may take squares into account, but only if they are extremely close to 90 degrees (within 1 degree). These are going to be the most obviously felt aspects by the two people involved.
Soft (harmonious) aspects, like the trine (120 degrees) and sextile (60 degrees) and other so-called “minor” aspects (like the quincunx - 150 degrees; semi square - 45 degrees; semi sextile - 30 degrees, ect.) need to be researched more, but may also be important, especially when the orbs are extremely tight (less than 1 degree orb).
So, for now, I usually just use the conjunction, opposition and sometimes the square.
Now, let’s get started, and look at an example. If you know anything about Tropical to Tropical synastry, then incorporating the Draconic zodiac into your synastry readings will be very easy for you.
*I will abbreviate Tropical with (T) before the planet when applicable, and I’ll abbreviate Draconic with (D) before the planet when applicable.
Prince William and Princess Kate of Cambridge
William’s Draconic (inner wheel) to Kate’s Draconic (outer wheel)
William’s (D) Mars conjunct Kate’s (D) Saturn - 3’32” orb
Together, William and Kate are able to focus on their goals and harness their energies well, in a structured way that can give long lasting results. However, it’s possible that William will feel that Kate stops him from doing things that he wants to do, and he could resent this at times. Kate may at times think that William behaves in a way that wastes his energy, and she may act in a critical way about this perceived wastefulness. However, they can cooperate if they work at it and be very productive together.
Williams’s (D) Saturn conjunct Kate’s (D) Saturn - 2’47” orb
William and Kate’s Saturn’s are fairly close in aspect, though they
are straddling two different signs, as Kate’s Draconic Saturn is at
29 degrees of Gemini, while William’s Draconic Saturn is at 2
degrees of Cancer. So, while their Saturn’s are close in orb, they
are not working within the same signs or houses. But they will still
feel a bond through this planet, which has a strong energy of
longevity and commitment. They may feel a deep resonance based on the
closeness of the aspect in their desire for stability.
William’s (D) Jupiter conjunct Kate’s (D) Jupiter - 2’19” orb
What causes a feeling of expansiveness and growth for both William
and Kate are resonating very well with each other. William and Kate
have a similar approach to how they think about bigger ideas, like
philosophy or other expansive thoughts about life. They are most
likely aligned in religion as well. They may agree on which teachers they favor. As Jupiter is in Cancer here (as is Pluto for both of
them), family and a sense of needing to protect themselves and their
“tribe” may be strong (and also aligned with each other). Cancer is
a sign that has a strong need to belong to a group (a family, gang,
military, friend group), and to be very protective of that group.
William’s Tropical (inner) to Kate’s Draconic (outer)
William’s (T) Sun conjunct Kate’s (D) Saturn - 46” minutes orb
Kate is providing much behind the scenes support and structure to
William’s sense of self and his duties and work in the royal family.
Kate provides a strong sense of stability to William, and likely
keeps him grounded and helps him not get an overblown ego.
William’s (T) Saturn conjunct Kate’s (D) Venus - 43” minutes orb
William and Kate’s attraction to one another is very realistic. It
is not based on superficial attraction and they can see the deeper
beauty that each has - the lasting beauty that relates to essential,
lasting qualities. This love has the support it needs to be long
lasting, with sustainable commitment and love through ups and downs.
William’s (T) Moon conjunct Kate’s (D) Pluto - 35” minutes orb
There is a deep emotional bond shared by William and Kate. They
likely became somewhat obsessed with each other early on, perhaps
having some jealousy issues. They can connect at a very profound
emotional level, and Kate likely has a great interest in each
William’s history.
William’s (T) North Node conjunct Kate’s (D) Jupiter - 1’30” orb
Kate encourages William to grow into the area of life that he most
needs to grow towards, that part which he has least experience in and
needs balancing in. Kate can really expand William’s future and
unlock a very positive potential that exists within him. William’s
Tropical North Node, Sun and Moon, are all in Cancer in the 7th house.
With these placements all in the 7th house, this becomes an extremely
important area of his life, which on one hand he may feel very
comfortable in - as the Sun and Moon would indicate - however he
likely needs some definite work in this area, with the North Node
there. He might be used to being more self-focused, which would make
sense in that he has been groomed to be a King since he was born. The
North Node in the 7th is calling upon William to think more about
others, to learn to compromise and find balance with others.
William’s (T) Jupiter conjunct Kate’s (D) Part of Fortune - 35”
minutes orb
William has the missing piece that activates Kate’s ability to
attract opportunities for material abundance - or more outwardly
obvious signs of abundance. Kate greatly benefits by William’s
expansive and generous energies, as well as his connections.
When a person’s planet conjuncts our Part of Fortune (or other
Arabic Parts), that person activates us in a big way, as the Part of
Fortune is actually a point that connects our Sun, Moon and Ascendant.
This creates what we call an isotrap in Vibrational Astrology, which
is a flowing energy that moves between the planets/angles involved.
The orbs for any planet conjunct/opposite the Part of Fortune should
probably be kept tighter than with other synastry aspects as it’s
not a planet, but a midpoint structure - so I’d recommend no more
than 1.5 degrees orb max.
Kate’s Tropical (inner) to William’s Draconic (outer)
Kate’s (T) Moon conjunct William’s (D) Jupiter - 1’33” orb
William naturally uplifts Kate’s moods, and together they can enjoy a
pleasant, light atmosphere. They are open to other culture’s and
lifestyles. William may also sometimes cause Kate’s feelings to get
overblown unnecessarily at times.
Kate’s (T) Ascendant conjunct William’s (D) Uranus - 1’50” orb
William probably seemed exciting to Kate immediately, and there may
have been sparks right away between them. William may also feel a bit
unstable to Kate, or perhaps he just comes across as spontaneous and
fun to her. William brings much change to Kate’s life, which may
sometimes be a welcome change, and other times it might feel too
unexpected and sudden to feel comfortable. William and Kate are able
to approach life as an adventure together, and will need to allow
each other a fair amount of freedom for this to work.
Kate’s (T) Sun opposite William’s (D) Jupiter - 2’03” orb
William again adds a grandness or perhaps exaggeration with Kate and
her outlook on life and perhaps her outlook on herself. William’s
Jupiter in a fairly close aspect to both her luminaries (Sun and Moon)is definitely adding a noticeable expansion to Kate in her most
direct experience and perception of life.
Kate’s (T) Neptune opposite William’s (D) Mars - 24” minutes orb
William energizes Kate’s dreams and ideals. William’s actions
directly bring experiences to Kate that activate her highest wishes
and desires for a fulfilled life. William may also feel like an ideal
lover to Kate (and vice versa).
