How are Vibrational Charts Made?
What is a Vibrational Chart and how is it made? Why should we use them? What's even the point?

Vibrational Charts are basically the same thing as Harmonic Charts. There are a handful of Harmonic Charts that are calculated on some of the free chart calculator websites, like astro.com and astroseek.com. This is a good place to start looking at Harmonic charts and including them as you practice interpreting charts on your own.
David Cochrane tested and used evidence-based methods to conclude the clear validity of Harmonic charts, as written about and taught by John Addey, however David built on Addey’s work and took it many steps further. And because of this, David decided it was best to rename the type of astrology he practices as Vibrational Astrology, as the differences are too numerous, and this could have caused confusion.
If we can remain open-minded, not make assumptions, and use critical thinking, we will be able to admit that we don’t know the limits of astrology, that there is much we don’t know. And those who have come before did not know all there is to know about astrology, and they might even have gotten some things wrong, or somewhere down the line, information about astrology might have been misinterpreted. We need to play and try things out to see how it really works. We can’t just base it on what people believe the meanings and limits to be.
There are dozens if not hundreds of differing views on how to interpret an astrological chart, the tools and techniques that are used, and many of these are conflicting. So, how do we know for sure which one’s produce repeatable and obvious results? The only way we can be sure is through the use of evidence-based research, the same way that the practices of psychology and medicine are based on evidence that is found through stringent and repeatable research methods.
Going back to the foundational level, what is astrology? What is it based on? For instance, let’s look at aspects - which is a fundamental part of astrology:
An aspect is an aspect because it’s a fraction of a circle.
The Ptolemaic aspects were the only ones used for a long time in the West because they are easy to see with the naked eye and without some way to compute the fractions - the other aspects basically require a computer to see, unless you’re a math genius. So the fact that they were even talked about other aspects is amazing.
Why do certain aspects give a meaning and why do 30-degree groupings matter? John Addey talked about being able to divide the 360-degree circle by any number and there will be a meaning to that division or aspect. The interest in his work faded as people got more interested in ancient astrology like Hellenistic. Addey did a lot of research on the harmonic charts, which are divisional charts that are a division of the 360 circle, starting with the natal chart - but these divisional (harmonic) charts show aspects that are difficult to find with the human brain.
As stated before, Ptolemy’s five basic aspects are used because they can be seen easily, without a computer (which is how astrology was calculated until the last 50 years or so) but in reality,we can divide the circle by any fraction. In fractions, the Denominator is more important than the Numerator, when it comes to astrology. The Denominator is the number at the bottom of the fraction – in the fraction 1/5, or 2/5 - the Denominator is the 5.
Technically, all planets are in aspect to each other. If they are ALL aspecting each other, then how do you interpret every aspect?
Each of these divisional charts - also known as harmonic or vibrational charts - have a particular energy to them. They resonate to the number they are divided by. Similar to how the aspects each have a unique energy, like the trine is a flowing, smooth, harmonious, energy, and the square is an aspect that requires effort, energy, action, it requires an energy of work or “turning a corner” to bring the two planet’s energies together.
These are examples of how the Vibrational charts get their own unique energy, which is related to the number that they are dividing the 360 degree circle by. So each Vibrational chart has a distinct energy or vibration to it. Once we understand the basic energy and what that inspires in us, we can then take into account how the planets are interacting with each other within that Vibration.
The planetary pattern within the Vibrational chart adds another layer of depth to the chart. So, Vibrational Astrology is finding and recognising deep layers of planetary interaction within the basic natal chart - which in Vibrational astrology could be called the 1st Vibrational chart - as it’s the original, undivided chart that we’re using to make the Vibrational charts.
The Vibrational charts’ particular energy signature is determined in great part through evidence-based research. Being as scientific and research based as possible is the foundation of all parts of Vibrational Astrology. Other tools and techniques that are used outside of the framework of Vibrational Astrology might work, but they won’t be classified as being part of Vibrational Astrology unless or until they have been researched sufficiently to confirm their accuracy, or lack there of.
