Jupiter is a masculine planet, making him initiate and take action, but he’s also Sattvic, making his simultaneously receptive and pure. Jupiter is known as the Guru, as he is the planet of wisdom. He understands the deeper truths of the Universe. He sees from a higher perspective, which gives him good discernment. Jupiter is forgiving and non-judgmental. For this reason, he has no enemies, because he doesn’t deem some to be worthy and others unworthy. Jupiter is also a planet that represents and can bestow wealth and abundance. He blesses all indiscriminately with his grace and good fortune. He can give material gains and also spiritual gains and knowledge. Jupiter is the karaka for children and for the husband for a woman. Jupiter also gives us our sense of purpose and shows where we find enjoyment in our life.

The first house is the house that represents one’s body, our path in life and our most obvious personality traits. Jupiter receives Dig Bala, or directional strength in the first house. Jupiter can express his natural qualities very well here and he benefits the whole chart from this position, potentially smoothing out placements in the chart that could be very difficult. Jupiter also gives Graha aspects to the fifth and ninth house from where he’s located, so all the trines are quite blessed by having him placed here. These houses are able to make great use of the qualities of Jupiter, as Jupiter is the karaka for these two houses.

Jupiter in the First also gives the native with this placement an optimistic and overall buoyant perspective on life. Jupiter can give extra opportunities and protection from this house. The First house is the house of the body, and Jupiter here can give a large body. Jupiter in the First gives a good sense of humour and will generally give a good impression to others, as people are initially seen from their first house.

The second house, ruled naturally by Venus, who is an enemy to Jupiter, so Jupiter won’t generally give his highest qualities from this house. Jupiter is more spiritually minded, while Venus more materially minded. This will be great for people who favour material wealth over the deeper wisdom that Jupiter naturally embodies.

This house also relates to speech and what we put into our mouth (food, and potentially drugs and alcohol), and Jupiter here can give pleasant speech and allow the person to impart wisdom through his words. As Jupiter can sometimes overdo things, he may cause the person to exaggerate, over-inflate or over-indulge with food or drugs.

The Third house is a house that rules communication, courage, will power, our skills and talents and interests. Malefics do best in the Third, so Jupiter here is not the best placement, but Jupiter will benefit the areas of life that the Third represents. He can give good writing ability and the person with this placement will be knowledgeable about what they communicate, as Jupiter loves knowledge and learning. He is also a teacher, so he can teach through his writing or communications. This person will communicate in an expansive or philosophical way that inspires or uplifts others. With Jupiter in the Third house, the person is confident in their will and believe that they can easily get what they want. The Third house also represents the peers, siblings and the local community, so this person generally enjoys making connections within their immediate area. This placement also tends to make the person very active and always involved in various projects and activities.

The Fourth house is a water house that represents our emotional nature and level of fulfilment and security, emotionally. Jupiter does well in the Fourth house, as he brings his buoyant nature to the emotions of the person and Jupiter will give a deep sense of stability and confidence in this kendra. This is a “happy go lucky” type of person, who has an overall stable emotional nature. They could have a particularly good connection with their mother, and she could be like a guide and real support to the person. As this is also the house of fixed assets, this person could have a fair amount of wealth in this area, like more luxurious homes and cars. Inheritance from family is also possible.

The Fifth house is the house that represents children, intelligence, academic education, good past life karmas, mantra, romance, fun, speculation, sports, entertainment, and creative arts. Jupiter is the karaka of the Fifth house and children and it’s not ideal to have the karaka of a house placed in that house as it can harm the significations of that house (particularly the people it represents). On the positive side, Jupiter here will give quite an expansive knowledge and wisdom related to the things indicated by the Fifth house. Jupiter here can make a great teacher as well.

The Sixth house shows our challenges, obstacles, delays, competitors, illnesses/health, service, our daily routines, habits, and chores. Jupiter here is not the best placement for Jupiter (generally malefics do best in the Sixth house), however, Jupiter can do quite well in areas of work, service and health. Jupiter here gives a great interest and knowledge in health and healing. Jupiter here can do well when it comes to service, this person may be very service oriented and happy when they are in giving to others. Healthwise, Jupiter can give diseases related to overindulgence, obesity, digestive issues, or liver related illnesses.

The Seventh house relates to partnerships, marriage and sexual partners, business partners, trade and fair exchange. It is the house furthest away from us (the First house). Jupiter is opposite from his Dig Bala position here, making it difficult for him to give his best qualities. Jupiter in the Seventh can make the person a bit restless or have a “grass is greener” attitude in relationships or marriage, and so more than one marriage is possible. Jupiter in the Seventh can give a very balanced, well rounded spouse with good morals. Jupiter here will make the person connect best with people who share the same beliefs that they hold.

The Eighth house relates to longevity, transformation, sudden crisis, accidents, inheritance and joint assets, sex, hidden or occult knowledge, and astrology. It also represents our hidden psychological issues. Jupiter here can also give this person access to otherworldly

wisdom or psychic ability. The person will likely have a very deep spiritual connection and interest. This person will dig deep to find the truth, both the metaphysical and any secrets that might be hidden from them, though they themselves are quite secretive and private. They will also be great at research. There can be many sudden events or crises throughout life, which bring big changes in the life, but these can be beneficial due to Jupiter’s benefic qualities.

The Ninth house is related to fortune, blessings and luck, the father, teachers, higher learning, one’s purpose, one’s religious, spiritual or philosophical beliefs, and one’s culture. Jupiter is a karaka of the Ninth house and has many of the same indications and Jupiter is generally very comfortable here, though if there are malefic aspects to this house while Jupiter is places here, it will doubly harm the significations of this house, and this person could become very fixed in their beliefs if this is the case. This person can be very wise and intelligent, due to the aspect to the Fifth house.

The Tenth house relates to one’s activities and career. Jupiter isn’t totally comfortable in the Tenth house, unless the career or activities are related to Jupiterian activities. Jupiter is a bit philosophical for such an active house. But these people will make very good professors, counsellors, diplomats or people involved with the law, though not necessarily politicians. This person can be a good public speaker as well. People will generally think well of people with Jupiter in the Tenth, as this Jupiter will be visible to others and they may get favour from their superiors as they are seen as having good integrity.

The Eleventh house relates to gains or earnings, large network circles and communities, titles, achievements, highest desires and wishes. Jupiter here gives a large network circle and the person may be a good entrepreneur or business person, and will have the great contacts and support from friends. They will also have plenty of optimism, which can really help them succeed in their desires and dream, as they will have fewer obstacles coming from lack of belief in their abilities. Jupiter here can bring a lot of wealth and this person can make good money in speculation with his aspect to the Fifth house of speculation. This person will also likely want to do humanitarian work with this placement.

The Twelfth house relates to foreign places, places of isolation like ashrams, hospitals and prisons, hidden talents, spirituality and spiritual realms, losses, the ending or final stage of life, surrender to Divine Will, charity, dreams, the unconscious mind and meditation. Jupiter here will make a person a very good meditation teacher, a shaman or spiritual healer. These people will very much enjoy foreign lands and getting lost (or found) in meditation or higher states of consciousness or dream states. This person will likely be more open to experiences of aspects of reality that are tapped into through deeper states of consciousness. These people may love to go on pilgrimage for spiritual purposes. This person will likely love to spend lots of time alone in isolation. This person will also spend a lot on spiritual items, retreats or trips.
