Three Planet Combinations with the Sun

Three planet combinations will happen in a chart either through a pattern of three planets - like a Grand Trine, or a sextile - sextile - trine pattern, or a conjunction of two planets that aspect another planet by trine, opposition, square or any other aspect. There are other combinations, but this gives you a good idea of some of the possibilities. Another common way that a three planet combination can show up in a chart would be a midpoint structure, which is when you have a planet at the midpoint between two other planets, within 1.5 degrees. The planet at the midpoint can be either conjunct or opposite the midpoint.

Now, let’s have a look at how planet combine their energies, according to Evidence-based Astrology, which I also call Vibrational Astrology.

We will start with the three planet combinations that involve the Sun:

Sun-Moon-Mercury: The person is good at communicating with others, and a good listener. There person feels emotionally available to others in their communication, and others will feel able to open up this them easily (all things considered). The person may be good at helping others resolve their personal and emotional issues. A person with this combination may be a good counsellor or therapist.

Sun-Moon-Venus: This person is affectionate and loving, and can be easily hurt if exposed to unkindness or cruel behaviors. This person will feel deeply stirred by history and old things (with history). They feel connected to heritage, family history, culture and ancestory or roots. This person will need to be in relationship with someone who they can share their family history, their past and culture with, in depth. This aspect of their life is very important to them and they will need to be able to share it in their important relationships.

Sun-Moon-Mars: This person is very ambitious and faces challenges head on. They will do well in competition. They don’t tend to be very patient and can get frustrated when obstacles come up. Can get hurt emotionally easily.This person would benefit from relaxation exercises, meditation or perhaps decompressing in nature.

Sun-Moon-Jupiter: This person is very friendly, open and approachable. This person is great at interacting with lots of different people. They can have a big network of friends and or business networks. They can put people at ease and make them feel comfortable and give them an expansive, positive feeling. They themselves are optimistic and believe in themselves easily.

Sun-Moon-Saturn: This person is very sincere, and they don’t like phoniness. They don’t like things which don’t feel essential or truly important. This person needs time alone and likes to work in solitude as well. They prefer not to mingle in large groups, but prefer smaller groups where they can have more intimate, real conversations. This person will usually talk in a very mature way at a young age. They can come across as a bit quiet and serious.

Sun-Moon-Uranus: This person is creative, funny, inventive, spontaneous and can be impulsive. They are good at making up jokes on the spot and can make a good stand-up comedian.

Sun-Moon-Neptune: This person like to create a mood around them that makes them feel good, peaceful and comfortable. This might include specific music, lighting, smells (possibly from incense). The music might be of a more unusual nature, with an enchanting style. This person is imaginative and often dreams about the things that they think would be fulfilling - they dream of a beautiful future. This person might also be a mystic.

Sun-Moon-Pluto: This person might be emotionally compulsive, they are driven by feelings and instincts that don’t necessarily make logical sense to themselves or others. It is a feeling from deep within that they feel compelled to follow. They will tend to follow the things they are interested in until they have exhausted this deep compulsion, which can take a long time, or it might just change subtly, like studying one aspect of a subject and then changing to another part of that same subject.

Sun-Mercury-Venus: This person is great with language and could make a great writer, perhaps a poet, as they are excellent in their ability to combine words in beautifully descriptive ways. This person can also make a great counsellor or motivational speaker.

Sun-Mercury-Mars: This person has a love of learning. They tend to have a very direct way of communicating, which can cause problems with others if they aren’t careful - people can take the directness as rudeness or argumentative. They can get impatient if they feel their communications are not getting them the information they are looking for, or if they don’t feel understood. Their mind is very determined to learn practical and applicable information that they can use, and when they sense an obstacle to this gathering of knowledge, they want to remove the obstacle as quickly as possible.

Sun-Mercury-Jupiter: This person has a natural ability to see the bigger picture. They can understand different philosophies, religions and political perspectives easily. They make good supervisors or administrators. People with this combination aren’t great with fine details or minutiae.

Sun-Mercury-Saturn: This person has a very methodical and logical approach to life and the things they do, study and research. They need to gain a thorough and logical understanding of a subject, and are good problem-solvers. They want to gain a high level of clarity, which is not easy to find. They communicate quite maturely from a young age.

Sun-Mercury-Uranus: This person learns very quickly and has quick reflexes. They are clever and intelligent, but aren’t always very consistent. They would be able to accomplish more if they learn consistency.

Sun-Mercury-Neptune: This person has a vivid imagination. This person loves to learn, learning is inspiring to them and brings out their imagination. They find wonder and magic in the process of learning. This person is also good a creative writing and using the imagination to make things up or create stories.

Sun-Mercury-Pluto: This person will tend to become obsessed with subject or area of interest, and this intense focus can make them neglect to see other things that may be relevant. This person goes to such depths in a subject that they extract important aspects of that subject that can only be found and understood through obsessive dedication to the pursuit.

Sun-Venus-Mars: This person loves beauty that is very colorful and tangible or visceral. They like a very lively sort of life, that involves direct interaction with people, passion, richness and a lively activity. Places like Mexico and India are reminicent of such energies. There is no dullness or lack of interactive and colorful aliveness. Art that is handmade is also something that this combination relates to.

Sun-Venus-Jupiter: This person needs to feel and express an expansive sense of openness. They tend to be very generous and like the generosity to be reciprocated. These people enjoy festivities, parties and share openly and freely with others.

Sun-Venus-Saturn: This person is very serious and loyal in relationships. They tend to look beneath the surface for a more meaningful attraction and beauty. Looks might not be the most important thing to them when they are looking for a romantic partner. They want something real, lasting love. This person may also be naturally artistic and is able to cut away the non-essential to find the real beauty in their art.

Sun-Venus-Uranus: This person likely loves to dance and or loves music, especially music with a good rhythm. They may have musical talent themselves as well, if they’ve had the chance to develop so skill at it. They like lively parties and environments. And they enjoy feeling free, and might resist feeling too tied down, or at least need to feel free within their relationships.

Sun-Venus-Neptune: This person has a strong need to have beautiful and inspiring surroundings. For this person, beauty gives them a great sense of awe, wonder, and magic.

Sun-Venus-Pluto: This person has a very passionate and devotional nature. They can also be obsessive and jealous in relationships. This person can not juggle multiple dating partners, as they can only focus on one, and that focus is intense! They feel as though they are merging and blending with their partner, which is why they feel so identified with their partner and don’t want to share - or even the threat of having to share is too much. This person may also focus their obsession on other forms of beauty, like nature, art, or music.

Sun-Mars-Jupiter: This person is very goal oriented and wants to achieve. They have an ability to see what is ahead of them on their path. They make big plan and have a clear focus on what they need to do to achieve their goals. They will set their mind to their goals and work toward them relentlessly.

Sun-Mars-Saturn: This person is very responsible and is a hard-worker. They will do what needs to be done, including the jobs that others don’t like to do.They are the kind of person that often end up doing other people’s jobs for them - to some extent - because they just get on with the work that is in front of them. They should try not to let people use them or let people treat them like a doormat, just because they are good workers.

Sun-Mars-Uranus: This person has fast reflexes, sudden bursts of energy and be impulsive and impatient. They are dynamic and enthusiastic. They will tend to be naturally good at sports, but can also be prone to accidents or physical injuries due to their fast and impatient way of moving. They should not put themselves in danger by driving too fast or overestimating their safety.

Sun-Mars-Neptune: This person has a need to pursue their dreams, and to keep a sense of magic and imagination in their actions or as they reach for their goals. They do best in an environment that inspires them, that draws out the feelings of wonder and awe. They can have child-like excitability.

Sun-Mars-Pluto: This person has an excellent ability to focus profoundly on whatever subject they are feel passionate about, and they can hold that concentration long term, as long as their instinctual passion continues, which tends to be long term. Their deep focus is so great that they are able to uncover things that might be hard to understand. They are very persistent and tenacious in their digging for the truth.

Sun-Jupiter-Saturn: This person has a natural understanding of structure, organization and intuitively knows how to create something that will grow over time in a way that will make it last. For this reason they are great in business and could be a successful entrepreneur.

Sun-Jupiter-Uranus: This person has an excellent sense of humor. They are quite gregarious, optimistic and enthusiastic. They enjoy lively environments and are quite popular with others. They do well mingling with others, for instance in a party type atmosphere.

Sun-Jupiter-Neptune: This person will very much enjoy adventure, travel and seeing many new horizons and expansive visions - their visions might be in their physical travels or they could be in their big imaginations and dreams.

Sun-Jupiter-Pluto: This person will feel very drawn to immersing themselves in aspects of life and the world in which the grandness is prominent. They will enjoy places that are full of richness, high culture and that go beyond the average experiences in life. Museums, operas, and places in nature like views of the Ocean or views from a mountain top will give these people the feeling of grandness that they crave.

Sun-Saturn-Uranus: This person tends to be quite rebellious and will resist any attempt to restrict them or limit their freedom. They enjoy restructuring the way things are done. It is good for them to come up with a clear plan before acting on their impulses.

Sun-Saturn-Neptune: This person has very high standards, which may be hard to meet. They can be sceptical when it comes to spiritual subjects, though they can be some of the most sincere spiritual seekers, but they don’t resonate with a New Agey, “Love and Light” kind of spirituality, but rather a very practical, grounded approach which can create real results. They may be more attracted to practices like daily meditation or mindfulness practices. They will be happiest living a simple lifestyle, with a strong spiritual path and in service to others.

Sun-Saturn-Pluto: This person has incredible grid and determination, and they are willing to give up more than most for something that they feel is incredibly important.

Sun-Uranus-Neptune: This person feels the need to exciting and inspiring experiences on a fairly regular basis in their life. This could drive them toward the use of psychedelics, as this can fulfill this need. But they should be careful with the use of drugs, as it can cause harm if the use becomes a dependence. This person will do best in life if they can make plans and follow them, rather than act from spontaneous feelings only, as they might not be able to create anything of substance if they follow these feelings only.

Sun-Uranus-Pluto: This person should not stay stuck in old patterns. They will feel a need to reinvent themselves every so often, to spontaneously transform themselves in some way. This is healthy, every so often. Having a life of monotony or the same routine day in and day out will not work for them.

Sun-Neptune-Pluto: This person needs to have a sense of magic and mystery in their life in order to feel good in life. They don’t do well with mundane responsibility. They are natural visionaries and can draw on a deep inner inspiration easily.
