Vibrational Astrology is an advanced and evidence-based astrology, that has been the culmination of over 50 years of research by my Teacher, David Cochrane, and some contemporaries of David. David built his work on the work of predecessors, including John Addey, who did comprehensive work with Harmonic Astrology. Vibrational Astrology has taken Addey’s work a few steps further, and also heavily relies on Midpoint Structures, as well as using Harmonic charts that go up into the hundreds. This type of astrology is also founded on a deep understanding of Astronomy and some sciences, including Quantum Physics.

While Vibrational Astrologers are continuing to conduct research studies that use scientifically valid methods, like extreme case sampling (which helps to prevent cherry picking data) to confirm various aspects of astrological beliefs, a solid base of astrological understanding has already been confirmed. Vibrational Astrology leans heavily into the use of harmonic charts (also be called vibrational charts), which are derivatives of the base natal chart (the 1st vibration), but looked at in much greater depth. Each vibrational chart comes from a division of the natal chart, be it a 1/5th division, which would be the 5th vibrational chart, the 1/7th division is the 7th vibrational chart, the 1/9 division is...you guessed it, the 9th vibrational chart. Every division of the 360 degree chart holds within it a particular resonance or frequency that influences the overall bent of the patterns that lie within that vibrational chart. So you will need to combine the energy of the vibrational chart with the planetary pattern that is found within it to understand in what scenarios in life the pattern will be activated. When we engage in activities or moods that activate a particular “vibration”, we will activate any patterns we have in that vibrational chart. This works for us as individuals, and also in synastry with others.

As an example, the 5 vibe is a very playful, creative, fun energy, which doesn’t work well in a competitive environment. The 7th vibration is a quiet, focused, potentially meditative frequency. This is great for deep study, research or practice of a particular activity, like sports, chess or even music. The 9th vibration is related to how we feel within our community. When we have a strong 9 vibe chart, we are more affected by our community, and we have more focus on healing or creating groups that benefit our local community. Vibrational charts are also used in Vedic Astrology (the general name given to the various traditions of astrology in India), but they are called Divisional charts or Vargas. Most of the Vargas do not use the same divisions as the Vibrational charts, only the D7 and D9 are the same in both traditions. There is however a big difference in how the Vargas and Vibrational charts are interpreted and used.

The vibrational charts go up into the hundreds (or even potentially thousands, though more research is needed to understand many of the higher vibrational numbers). Can you imagine how useful it is to be able to look at the natal chart with the ability to see patterns (planetary aspects which create traits, talents, needs within each one of us) that would be impossible to see by just looking at the natal chart? While the natal chart can tell many people enough to seem impressive, when you have hundreds of charts at your fingertips to dive deep and pinpoint very specific energies, it becomes quite an incredible adventure of exploration. This may seem daunting at the beginning of this adventure, but it’s well worth the time to learn how to use the software needed to calculate vibrational charts, and how to interpret the patterns found therein.

With this incredible, cutting-edge type of astrology, we are able to use these charts to dig deep into a person's deeper needs, motivations, talents, and potentials. Many aspects of human nature that are very subtle. New or rare expressions of the human can be found, if we know where to look. One example: A vibrational chart that tends to make a person feel that it’s inappropriate to define their gender - an “identification” as non-binary can be found in the 37 vibration. This is a vibration that deeply feels the mystery of life throughout their life. People who have a strong pattern in this vibration may feel too defined and not recognizing the mystery that is always present for them to define their gender.

We can use Vibrational astrology to learn more about ourselves. We may think we know ourselves sufficiently, but there are details that we may not have realized are more important than we have understood. For instance, things we have really loved as children, but we stop engaging with or pursuing due to being overly critical of our abilities, or the activity not being supported by others. We might have latent talents that we have never tapped into as well…these are all things that can be found using Vibrational astrology. And of course Vibrational astrology is used for synastry or relationship astrology, which we will explore further in this ebook. Other uses are forecasting (prediction), for astro-cartography, horary (creating a chart from a question and finding the answer within that newly made chart), to chose a date for a particular event so that the best energies are activated based on what you need. The limits to what Vibrational astrology can do are the limits our minds place on it.

In Vibrational Astrology, the following vibrational charts have been seen to be very significant in romantic relationships, and have frequently been seen to have strong patterns and/or midpoint structures in long term married couples (this is based on research involving over 20,000 charts of married couples who were together for at least 20 years):

The 7th vibrational chart indicates: a deep, soul connection. The couple feel like home to each other. They are comfortable to just be in each other’s presence, even just to be quiet together. There’s a feeling of reprieve in being together. The rest of the world may be full of busyness, chaos and conflict, but together they can feel more relaxed, calm, and focused. They may enjoy activities like meditation together, or if they haven’t tried this, they should! They will bring out the ability in each other to meditate and focus in a profound way. This connection can feel meant to be and like a past life connection. We know each other already. Because it is at more of the soul level that the two people are connecting. The people who share a strong pattern in the 7 vibration might be attracted to each other even if the other is not our normal physical type, because the attraction goes beyond the more base physical type of attraction, though it doesn’t mean you won’t be physically or sexually attracted. The attraction can be very strong!

The 8th vibrational chart indicates: an immediate, perhaps urgent need will be felt. This connection might be quite physical, energizing, motivating and a vital type of attraction. The 8th vibration conjunctions are created by squares in the natal chart. Squares in vibrational astrology are not considered bad or even difficult. Planets and aspects are not judged in the same way in vibrational astrology as in many other systems of astrology. Squares simply give a drive and motivation to the person or people. So when we find a tight pattern in the 8th vibration in synastry, it will create a strong need to pursue that energy, to live it and have it in our life in a real, concrete way. Our 8th vibration can even outrank our natal chart in it’s necessity to be “had” by us. We need to have, pursue or express the energies of the 8 vibe, if we have a tight pattern of three or more planets.

The 9 vibrational chart indicates: this connection feels supported by or connected to the community we live in. The 9th vibrational chart is one and the same chart as the Navamsa (or D9) chart in Vedic astrology. The Navamsa is considered the chart of the spouse or the chart used to see the married life and the spouse. While I’ve never heard Vedic astrologers talk about this divisional chart being related to one’s local community, this is what has been discovered about it through the research done by David Cochrane and his team of researchers. And it does make sense that the chart that shows how we are affected by our community, how sensitive we are to our immediate surroundings, family, friends, neighbors and teachers, would also relate to choosing a spouse. In India, the family is much more connected to the community around them. It is a tribal culture even today, at least in the majority of India that still lives in small networks of villages.

The 13th vibrational chart indicates: this person feels special to us, like they were made just for us. Even the simple things they do just seems to have a sparkle to it, like light shines from this person, as they just don’t seem ordinary, like other people do to us (or the person we are connected to through the 13 vibration). One issue that can arise from 13 vibe connections is that is that feeling of specialness is somehow damaged, it will be hard for us to get that feeling back and the foundation that this relationship is built on might crumble.Other strong connections besides this one would be very beneficial.

The 17th vibrational chart indicates: we connect at an empathic level. We understand each other and we care about each other at a level that is similar to how we care about ourselves. We tend to be less selfish with people we share a 17 vibe with, because we empathize with them. This is not one of the charts that was found to be very prominent in the 20,000 married couples, but I have found this chart to be very prominent with couples that share an amazing bond that can make the couple feel like one person in two bodies…very in sync, very emotional, deep understanding.

The 55th vibrational chart indicates: we feel giddy in love with this person. Being with them brings out the inner child and we want to skip, play and generally act younger than our age when we are with this person. We fall hard for this person as they really uplift our energy. There is a definite spark shared between this couple. This vibration is a mixture of playful energy and a constantly moving, restless, and progressive energy, creating a very unique, fun dynamic.

Important things to consider in synastry

Other important things to consider when comparing the synastry between people using Vibrational astrology:

A little preface before going further - when I use the work “tight” I always mean “very close in orbs”. That means that the aspect between each planet is within 1-2 degrees for conjunctions and oppositions, under a degree for a square or trine and most other aspects. And when I use the work “tight” with midpoint structures, I generally mean within 15 minutes orb. I might use the word tight at 20 minutes, but once a midpoint or aspect pattern gets a bit less than really “tight”, I will probably use the word “strong”.

Having a tight, multi-planet pattern (preferably four or more planets in a closed circuit pattern, but even a tight three planet pattern can create strong attraction) and tight midpoints are important to look for too. The planets involved will tell much more about what the connection feels like and the dynamic between the two people. Venus should be involved in the pattern to create the type of pull that most people need to feel a romantic attraction. Mars, Uranus, Pluto, Neptune, the Sun and Moon are also all good to have involved in these patterns. Jupiter and Mercury seem to have less impact for romantic attraction than the former planets mentioned. The Nodes of the Moon intensify energies of planets they are connected to.
